You are in luck if searching for bakery Hayward. We are lucky to have pretty interesting Hayward bakeries all around. You can find bakeries that specialize in cupcakes, others that specialize in wedding cakes. The key to finding the right Hayward bakery is, of course, to give it a try.
Be sure to ask what they have fresh – stale cupcakes are no fun, but in this economy, there is a tendency to keep them on display just a little bit longer than usual. So either check their web site, or call for what’s fresh today. Then go there and try your (fresh) favorites. Whether it’s a Hayward bakery, or any other, you know what you like.
If carrot cake is your favorite, you don’t have to buy a whole cake – get a slice, or a couple of carrot cake cupcakes. If they area fresh, made today, you will know if the quality of the carrot cake is as high as you expect. If you are really adventurous, you could try yesterday’s cake. If it tastes good, you know that fresh one will be even better.
Another thing to keep in mind – cakes will “keep” longer depending on the type. A carrot cake lasts longer than a cheesecake. Since bakeries know that, they are likely to keep their cheesecake refrigerated, while a carrot cake might be left out to fend for itself. That’s why I am a big fan of checking ahead of time what’s fresh – what was made today. This way, I am comparing apples to apples. And if they happen to be disingenuous, and tell me that something was made today, when it wasn’t – oh well, they pretty much eliminate themselves,- a day old, refrigerated cake vs. fresh one is no contest.
If today the bakery Hayward does not have your favorites, and you just can’t wait until tomorrow, then you can also go ahead and get something else – get their fresh muffins, or pastries. The idea is to see if “fresh” stuff is really fresh, and if it tastes good. In my experience, most stores will make desserts the same way – they either hit just the right blend of ingredients, regardless of the type of dessert, or they will overdo it – either too rich, or too sweet. So if those muffins are “just right”, chances are the cakes or cupcakes will be good as well.
